Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Kamilla Merkulova, I’m from Azerbaijan. I’m a stylist and designer and I have worked in many different fields but I’ve always had a passion for fashion. I learned how to sew, embroider and knit when I was in school.
I Appreciate art in any form and love to design clothes and jewellery. I also love to help women feel beautiful by helping them with styling advice and I also love doing editorial styling.
Who are your favourite designers and why?
Oh, I love Italy! Italian perfumes, leather, fashion, food! No wonder that Valentino Garavani is my favourite designer. His designs are an inspiring combination of elegance and feminity – I’ve never seen any of his famous red dresses that I haven’t loved. Did you know that there is a specific shade of bright red colour called “Valentino red”?
Who is your fashion inspiration?
It’s very difficult for me to choose just one. I’d say Coco Chanel – that woman has given us so much to be thankful for! She was a fashion genius way ahead of her time.
Do you have any fashion rules when putting an outfit together?
Sure! Make sure that you always feel good in the clothes you wear, but don’t be afraid to experiment and most importantly: be yourself!
Name the top three things in your styling kit that are must-haves?
Scarves, white shirts & sunglasses
What’s the one wardrobe essential you can’t live without?
Do you have any fashion pet peeves?
Oh yes! People trying to be trendy without being creative – just replicating the styles they see.
Name one style rule you think all women should break.
No mixing prints! Go ahead and mix them up! and don’t forget to have fun doing while that.
What’s the most outrageous piece of fashion advice you’ve ever received?
That without high heels, an outfit looks incomplete.
You’re stranded on a deserted island and can only bring five things from your closet — what do you grab?
Hat, jeans, long cardigan, cotton T-shirt and boots. Bet I’ll look funny! Can I bring water and coconut oil too? Please!
If you could have any TV or movie character’s wardrobe, whose would you chose and why?
Blair Waldorf from “Gossip Girl” – absolutely impeccable selection. Fashion was the reason I’ve watched the show.
