An interview with our artist of the month – Rex Chouk
About Rex and his Art
What is your Name, where are you from, when and where were you born?
My name is Rex Chouk, I was born in 1990 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
If you could describe yourself in three words, what would those words be?
Tell us something about yourself that you would like our audience to know.
To know less, is to know more.
What is the type/ form/ style of artwork you focus on?
Digital and canvas.
Describe your creative process?
There are no rules, and no wrong ways. It will all figure itself out.
How did you commence your journey into Art and what was the first piece of Art that you had crafted?
Through meditation. My first works were doodles on a canvas.
How has your style changed over the years?
My style has not changed, but it has grown.
How do you differentiate your work from the rest?
By not caring about what others think of my work.
Do you ever experience creative blocks? How do you deal with them?
Of course, but I embrace them. It will pass, and while it does, I enjoy the awkward awkward style of forcing something.
If you had the chance to dine with an artist, who would it be and why?
Salvador Dalí – to feel sane.
What drives you to create art and where do you get your inspiration from?
Music, experiences, happiness, sorrows, fictional-life. Sharing my energy with myself first, and then the world.
What is your own favorite artwork and why? What’s the story behind it?
I do not have any favourites. I follow the artist, not the art.
What role do you think artists have in society?
Try to tell everyone that they are all artists, then ask them the same question.
How do you see the future of art?
Our brand name is ‘Osheq’ which means Extreme Love or Extreme Passion – what does the word Osheq mean to you as an artist? or what is your own Extreme Love or Osheq story?
To love my soul and the souls around me. My Osheq story is me trying to find myself- a lifelong, wonderful journey. If you’re reading this, I encourage you to do the same.
