Rana Zaher, an artist with a background in archaeology, was inspired by the lions on ‘The Ishtar Gate’ – the main entrance to the city of Babylon, when creating this wearable artwork.

The “Lions of Babylon”, guardians of the goddess of love & war, Ishtar, are here to remind us of the women’s power throughout history and of the importance of preserving what is left of Iraq’s ancient architecture and cultural greatness.

For the artist Rana Zaher, “The Guardian of Aleppo” is her youth. In her interpretation of the carvings uncovered in the Temple of the Storm God – one of ancient Aleppo’s main deities – Rana portrays the sphinx as a child, to represent the country’s bright future.
As for the other stylistic details, they are a reminder of how a country’s culture can survive the test of time through its art.
