Ghena Safawi is a Multidisciplinary Visual Artist. She works as a graphic and web designer as a profession but spends her free time as a photographer. In 2014, Ghena participated in #MobilePhotoNow exhibition held at The Columbus Museum of Art located in downtown Columbus, Ohio. #MobilePhotoNow is a large-scale participatory art project and Instagram exhibition highlighting the emerging art form of mobile photography, and the power of social media and smart phones as a means of creative expression and connection. Four photo challenges inspired by CMA’s renowned Photo League collection generated more than 45,000 Instagram submissions from 5,000 photographers across 89 countries, the largest mobile photography organized by a museum. (February 6, 2015 — March 22, 2015). Only 320 images were included in the exhibition, five of which were taken by Ghena. Her photos have been featured in the Polaroid Museum in Las Vegas, USA (2014) and in Newsweek magazine in the “Street Photography” category to highlight mobile creativity (2015).
